Red Poets - Issue 15

The cover painting featured on our latest issue (no. 15) was created by Jackie Jones, who lives in Porth, Rhondda. Merthyr artist and heckler-in-chief Andrew Bartz gave it his blessing by saying – ‘I love it! It’s totally barkin’!’ Apologies to Jackie for not crediting her inside the covers. Prolific translator Dr Alun Hughes contributes three translations and a poem, including one by Bertolt Brecht (who didn’t turn up for the Merthyr launch). There is also a revealing article by Phil Knight about Dylan Thomas’s left-wing credentials and a fitting tribute to poet Terry Hetherington by Swansea artist and writer Alan Perry.
It’s always vital to give poets a first chance to be published and that’s the case with Iqbal Malik, Jo Ager and Jem Langworthy. In addition to that, it’s great to see a proliferation of websites from various poets, in keeping with the progress on our own. Tim Richards was very much the pioneer in this respect, followed by Mab Jones, Dave Lewis and Herb Williams. Raymond Humphreys , however, sets the standard with one of the finest sites around.
Hope you support this issue by buying a copy and look forward to seeing you at our forthcoming events.
